Ministries for You
Gathering in Purpose
First Presbyterian Church sponsors several programs to benefit the community and works with other organizations to help improve the lives of those in need. Following the 2011 flooding, the church was used by the Red Cross to house people whose homes were flooded.
Numerous community organizations have used and continue to use our church. We have a long and close relationship with the Wyoming Valley!
First Presbyterian Church offers a ride locally to and from Sunday morning Worship. Contact our church office and we will put you in contact with our van driver (570-824-2478).
The Christmas Together Dinner was held for the first time in December 1977 and is coordinated here at the church each December. On Christmas Day, meals are served at the church to those able to come to the church, rides are provided for those needing transportation, and meals are delivered to the homebound. Over 500 meals are served each year.
Ecumenical Enterprises Incorporated
Almost 50 years ago, through the efforts of the pastoral leadership of First Presbyterian Church, a new organization was formed within the religious community.
EEI is a nonprofit organization, composed of board members from four faith groups: First Presbyterian Church Wilkes-Barre, the Roman Catholic Diocese of Scranton, the Jewish Federation of Greater Wilkes-Barre, and the Metropolitan Lutheran Council of Wyoming Valley. We provide housing to low and moderate-income communities throughout the area, own and operate the Meadows Nursing and Rehabilitation Center, The Meadows Manor (a Personal Care facility), and provide for a child daycare facility, all on our campus in Dallas, Pa.
Commission for Economic Opportunity
We work with this wonderful local organization by participating with them in feeding and serving those in need, opening our kitchen so several hundred families receive a Thanksgiving dinner, and sponsoring our annual Christmas Together in our church on Christmas Day. Hundreds of volunteers gather to serve at the church and deliver to homes delicious Christmas meals. We are blessed in having friends from the Jewish community also volunteer, which includes instrumental and vocal entertainment. Over 500 families are served!
Habitat for Humanity
Volunteers and friends from the church work locally with Habitat for Humanity and other groups to assist with flood cleanups and home restorations.
The Pleasure of Your Company Therapy Dogs Reading Program
We are happy to have in our church on Monday evenings beautiful canines and precious children gather for The Pleasure of Your Company Therapy Dogs Reading Program.
AA meetings are held each Thursday at noon.
